About the Layers of Diversity Art Auction

Join Iowa Resource for International Service and view the work of Iowa artist, Jordan Weber while raising money for a good cause, the Global Grants & Scholarships Program. This program helps fund community service projects and continued education for our international exchange alumni.  There will be Hors d’oeuvres provided by The Cheese Shop and a sampling of wines from around the world (all included in price of admission). 

 

The Layers of Diversity Art Auction will be held at the Moberg Gallery on Thursday July 20 from 5-8 pm. There will be a silent auction with various pieces of art donated to IRIS (these pieces can also be bought ahead of time if desired) in the frame shop attached to Moberg Gallery. As well as, an installment done by professional Iowa Artist, Jordan Weber. His work will be for sale or just to view through the main part of the gallery.

The donated artwork shown below will be part of the silent auction.  However, they can all be purchased early as well. If you are interested in purchasing any of the items, email events@iris-center.org or call IRIS (515-292-7103). The proceeds from the art will go to the IRIS Global Grants and Scholarship Program. Bev Schreiber was known for her lighthouse painting, but some of her first pieces were sketches highlighting the architecture in Seattle and Tacoma Washington. Schreiber got serious about art after her husband passed away in the early 1990s and she had to find away to make money and support her 2 sons. Schreiber worked in the Pacific NW as well as Connecticut.

Rachel Maas is an artist from the pacific NW, she lived and worked in Washington and Oregon. In 1999 Maas moved to Oregon, but she missed many of her friends and life in Seattle. So, she took that love for people and decided to put it towards making beautiful pieces of art. Maas is still alive, but has some health issues, however that does not slow down her paint brush.

Item #113: "Tree Trunks" is the second signed piece by Pakistani artist Kaukab Barni Merchant. The staring donation bid for this framed piece is $150.  This piece also measures 14" by 17."  Fact: Previous IRIS donor support helped to implement a training program in Ukraine for youth on “media education and the tools of a young democracy."

Nancy Taylor Stonington studied physical geography in Middlebury College in Vermont and eventually went on to get her masters form the University of Colorado. Stonington didn’t discover her love for watercolors until moving to Alaska where she painted for years. Along with painting she founded and ran 6 galleries in Juno.
